How Oppward guides are researched and checked

What we use as sources, how we check a guide before it is published, and how to report a mistake.

Where the facts come from

Guides about federal contracting are written from primary sources: SAM.gov, Grants.gov, the Federal Acquisition Regulation at acquisition.gov, and the websites of the agencies and buyers involved. State and local guides use the buyer's own procurement pages. Where a claim comes from a source, the guide links to it so you can read the original.

How guides are checked

New and materially revised guides are checked against their cited sources before publication, and a person reviews them before they go live. The accountable role is the Oppward research team. Claims about rules, deadlines, thresholds and eligibility must match what the source says. If a source does not support a statement, the statement is removed or softened.

How Oppward's own data is reported

When a guide uses numbers from Oppward's own collection of listings, the numbers carry the date they were measured and describe what they count. They link to a public methodology page that explains how the measurement was taken and what it does not show. The current example is the state and local coverage methodology. We do not state a figure we cannot trace to a dated measurement.

What guides are not

Guides are general information for small businesses. They are not legal advice, and they do not promise that any business will qualify for or win a contract. Always confirm requirements, deadlines and eligibility on the buyer's original posting, and ask a qualified professional about your specific situation.

Independence

Oppward is an independent, privately owned service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by SAM.gov, Grants.gov, or any federal, state, or local government agency.

Corrections

If you find something that is wrong or out of date, email [email protected] with the guide's address and what you think should change. We review each report against the original source. When a guide is wrong we correct it and update its modified date.
