Combined Sources Sought Notice and Notice of Intent to Award a Sole Source Contract for X-Ray Machine Maintenance Services Notice ID: OFPM/TEAM SS26-31 Contract Opportunity Type: Sources Sought Response Date: August 6, 2026 Product Service Code (PSC): J063 NAICS Code: 811210 BACKGROUND The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research to identify alternative sources that (a) are capable of meeting NIST’s minimum requirements for the following commercial products and commercial services and (b) would be interested in competing for that requirement: NIST Facilities Services Division/Package Services Group requires regular scheduled maintenance and repair on the Astrophysics Inc XIS-1080 Midsize X-Ray Inspection System.
The X-ray machine is critical for daily operations, screening all incoming mail, packages, and freight.
Without regular maintenance and service, we compromise our ability to detect explosives, bioterrorism threats, and contraband, severely increasing the security risk to the NIST campus.
NIST has not yet determined its acquisition strategy for this requirement and encourages interested sources to respond to this Notice.
If NIST’s market research indicates there are alternative sources that are capable and interested in competing to fill this requirement, separate and apart from Astrophysics Inc., UEI: DFHNDJLYFD32, then NIST will consider conducting a competitive acquisition in accordance with law and regulation.
To be clear, NIST’s identification of Astrophysics Inc. in this Notice does not constitute a binding commitment or obligation for it to conduct a sole source procurement with Astrophysics Inc. for this requirement.
Instructions for Responding to Respond to This Notice Parties that respond to this Notice are requested...
Official solicitation and documents
The full solicitation, any attachments, and the actual submission instructions live on the official listing, not on this page. Oppward summarizes public record data; it does not host or mirror the source documents.
Oppward is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by SAM.gov or any government agency. This page is a plain-English summary of public record data; the linked source above is the authoritative listing.
How to bid on this
This is a contract solicitation, not a grant. To bid, you submit a proposal (usually a price and a description of how you would do the work) directly to the government, through the channel the official listing specifies, not through Oppward.
- Make sure your business has an active SAM.gov registration. You cannot be paid on a federal contract without one.
- Read the full solicitation on the official listing above, especially the scope of work, not just this summary. Our guide to reading a solicitation walks through what to look for.
- This listing has no set-aside restriction ("full and open competition"), meaning any business, large or small, can bid.
- Submit your proposal by the deadline, using the exact submission method the official listing states. A technically on-time bid sent the wrong way is often treated as late.
